US to allocate tens of thousands of dollars for "freedom of speech" in Kyrgyzstan

Kyrgyz media organizations will be allocated funds to finance programs "to support freedom of speech and independent media" in Kyrgyzstan. The US State Department will be engaged in this process.

US State Department also intended to finance programs that will be aimed at explaining to Russians the American values and principles of freedom of the media.

The State Department stressed that the media services of Kyrgyzstan are considered "the most open" in the region. However, most of them cannot be called completely independent due to the spread of self-censorship.

Any independent media in Kyrgyzstan can apply for funding. As part of the grant, the United States will provide participants from 10 to 50 thousand dollars. It is noted that the grants are aimed at increasing the capacity of Kyrgyz journalism in matters of independent and objective coverage of events in the country.
