USAID Allocates $ 1 Million to Development of Women's Entrepreneurship

The Ministry of Agriculture of Uzbekistan and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) signed a memorandum to support the agro-industrial complex in the republic. The document was signed by the head of the Ministry of Agriculture Jamshid Khodjaev and the director of the USAID mission in Uzbekistan, Mikaela Meredith.

During the event, USAID announced an additional $1 million to support rural women in Uzbekistan. These funds will be used to improve rural women’s information technology and entrepreneurship skills, empower them to launch business enterprises, and gain formal employment with local businesses.

It was noted that the new USAID Agribusiness Development (ADA) project, valued at US $ 18.9 million, will be an excellent opportunity to strengthen our joint initiatives and expand the achievements of the previous Agricultural Value Chain project.

According to Mikaela Meredith, the signed agreement will give an additional impetus to joint work in the country and increase the competitiveness of the agro-industrial sector, including retail trade enterprises, both domestic and international.
