Uzbekistan and Japan: 22 projects worth $ 4.3 billion

Negotiations were held in Tokyo between the Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Uzbekistan - Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade S.Umurzakov and the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry of Japan Koichi Hagiuda.

The agenda of the meeting included further strengthening of bilateral relations in the field of investment, industry and trade.

The parties considered the implementation of 22 projects worth $ 4.3 billion, signed during the visit of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan to Japan in 2019.

During the talks, it was noted that there are important opportunities for expanding cooperation in the fields of energy, health, transport infrastructure and information and communication technologies. An agreement was reached to establish a mechanism of close interagency cooperation and facilitate their implementation in order to exchange specific project proposals in these areas.

The Uzbek side welcomed the initiative of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to use a new tool in Uzbekistan to finance the energy sector and support small and medium-sized businesses without state guarantees.

The practical aspects of the project on construction of a neurology and stroke medical center in Tashkent, the project on equipping medical clinics in Samarkand and Andijan, major energy projects and a number of other projects in other areas were discussed in detail.

In particular, the prospects of organizing internships and trainings for Uzbek specialists in Japanese industrial testing centers by Japan were discussed.
