Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan begin restoration of underground gas storage in Sokh

Yesterday, on April 10, a working group headed by the Ministry of Energy left for the Kadamzhai district of Kyrgyzstan to study existing problems within the framework of the project to restore the natural gas storage system in the Northern Sokh GIS.
At the meeting with the working group established by the Kyrgyz side, the implementation of the measures provided for by the roadmap was discussed. The condition of gas wells on the territory of Kyrgyzstan was examined and further steps to be taken within the framework of the project were determined.
For your information, during the state visit of the President of Uzbekistan to Kyrgyzstan, agreements were reached on the restoration of an underground gas storage facility in Sokh. The project ”Restoration of the natural gas storage system in the underground gas storage facility "Severny Sokh" follows from this plan.
The Ministers of Energy of the two states also signed a “roadmap” for the preparation of a feasibility study of this project. Uzbekistan has formed a working group of 15 people. Together with Uzlitineftegaz, a technical specification has been developed for conducting field surveys at the wells of the Severny Sokh underground gas storage facility.
The underground gas storage facility ”Severny Sokh" was built in 1976 on the basis of the field of the same name and for a long time remained the subject of disputes between Tashkent and Bishkek even after the collapse of the former USSR. The main part of the gas storage facility is located on the territory of Kyrgyzstan, and the compressors are located on the territory of Uzbekistan. The volume of underground gas reserves there is 2.5-3 billion m3.
