Uzbekistan became a member of UNESCO's Intergovernmental Committee for the Protection of Intangible Cultural Heritage for the first time

Uzbekistan was elected to the Intergovernmental Committee for the Protection of Intangible Cultural Heritage at the 9th session of the General Assembly of States Parties to the Convention "On Protection of Intangible Cultural Heritage" held at the UNESCO Headquarters (Paris).

The reforms carried out by the leader of our country regarding the appreciation of intangible cultural heritage in Uzbekistan have borne fruit in the international arena. Under the leadership of the Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Uzbekistan - Minister of Tourism and Cultural Heritage, Chairman of the National Commission on UNESCO Affairs Aziz Abdukhakimov, the Permanent Representation of the Republic of Uzbekistan to UNESCO has been assigned to the Intergovernmental Committee for the Protection of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of the Republic of Uzbekistan for 4 years (2022-2026). it was over.

It should be noted that five candidates - Uzbekistan, Bulgaria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Slovakia and Estonia - competed for two vacancies in the second regional election group of UNESCO (Eastern Europe and some CIS countries).

The largest number of countries voted for Uzbekistan - 105. Other competing countries received votes as follows: Slovakia (94 - elected to the second empty seat), Estonia (69), Bulgaria (26), Bosnia and Herzegovina (9 ).

In his speech, the Uzbek side expressed its gratitude to the countries that voted for Uzbekistan and noted that they are ready to make a significant contribution to the promotion of the 2003 Convention at the national, regional and global levels.
