Uzbekistan-Kyrgyzstan: bilateral trade increased 8-fold in 6 years

January 24 this year, Minister of Investment, Industry and Trade of the Republic of Uzbekistan Mr. Laziz Kudratov met with Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Kyrgyz Republic Mr. Bakyt Torobaev and Minister of Economy and Commerce Mr. Daniyar Amangeldiev in Bishkek as part of a visit by a government delegation from Uzbekistan.

During the meeting with Bakyt Torobaev, Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Kyrgyz Republic, the importance of the forthcoming state visit of President Mirziyoyev to the Republic of Kyrgyzstan was emphasised.

The preparations for a business forum with the participation of business circles of Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan were considered. The parties have synchronized the list of investment agreements and trade contracts to be signed during the forum.

Consistent growth of bilateral trade between the two countries has been noted. The mutual trade turnover has increased 8 times in the last 6 years, reaching 1.3 billion dollars in 2022. A readiness was expressed to take a number of practical measures to increase it to $2 billion in the near future.

At the meeting with Minister of Economy and Commerce of the Kyrgyz Republic Daniyar Amangeldiev, possibilities of implementing major joint projects on the production of commercial vehicles and cars, construction and expansion of spinning and textile enterprises, production of construction materials were considered.

The sides considered preparation for construction of China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway. Prospects of implementing joint projects in energy sector have been discussed, with a view to constructing the Kambarata-1 hydroelectric power plant.
