Uzbekistan - Turkiye: law on ratification of Agreement on Transfer of convicts approved

The plenary session of the Senate considered the Law "On ratification of the Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Government of the Republic of Turkiye on the transfer of convicts (Tashkent, March 29, 2022). Ratification of the international agreement creates a legal basis and an opportunity for citizens of Uzbekistan and Turkiye to serve the sentence imposed by the court in their country.

According to this legal document, the transfer of convicts is carried out in accordance with the procedures stipulated in the law on the basis of appeals from the contracting parties. During the discussion, the senators stressed that serving sentences by convicts in their country will allow them to see close relatives regularly. This will have a positive impact on family relations, as well as facilitate the adaptation of convicts to the social life of society.

Of course, the adoption of this law serves to ensure even more effective protection of the rights and interests of citizens, contributes to strengthening the positive image of the republic in the international arena.

As you know, the Agreement was signed on March 30, 2022 during the official visit of the President of the Republic of Turkiye to the Republic of Uzbekistan.

Following the discussion, the senators approved the law on the ratification of this Agreement.
