The number of deputy heads of ministries and agencies is being reduced from 207 to 144

The president has signed a document on the reduction of staff units in state organisations. Under the Decree of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev of 25 January 2023, a total of 17,447 managerial and production staff at ministries and agencies, financed from budgetary and extra-budgetary funds (24 percent of the total number) will be cut.

This includes a reduction in the number of deputy heads of ministries and agencies from 207 to 144 (-63), or 30 per cent.

As a result of these measures:

—1.5 trillion UZS to reduce the number of staff;
— 70 billion UZS in budgetary resources will be saved by reducing the number of vehicles (including fuel costs and tyre replacement).

The total limited number of employees in ministries and agencies is set at 56,573.

It is categorically forbidden to introduce additional departments at the expense of extra-budgetary funds of ministries and agencies.

A unified list of ministries and agencies is also approved.

According to the decree, the number of independent ministries and departments subordinated to the government is set at 26 in total (including all committees, departments and inspectorates that are part of them - 69 in total), including

—Ministries - 21;
—12 committees, of which 2 have independent status;
—25 agencies, of which 3 have independent status;
—inspectorates - 11.

Abbreviations of ministries and departments will also be approved in Uzbek and Russian languages and may be shown in minutes of meetings and video compilations, official correspondence and analytical materials.
