Visit of the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights to Uzbekistan

On April 30, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev received a delegation of the observation mission of the Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (OSCE / ODIHR) with director Matteo Mecacci.

 

Welcoming the guest who arrived in the Central Asian republic on a working visit, the head of our state noted that Uzbekistan highly appreciates the cooperation of the Bureau's experts in the development of the draft law on freedom of conscience and the National Strategy on Human Rights.

 

In particular, the active work of the ODIHR in improving the Electoral Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan was noted.

 

On issues of long-term cooperation, an exchange of views took place between Uzbekistan and the OSCE / ODIHR, primarily in the field of freedom of speech, development of civil society institutions, human rights, improving the quality of education, religion and belief.

 

The delegation expressed gratitude to the President of Uzbekistan for the warm welcome and fruitful work in the field of human rights and strengthening the legal framework for ongoing democratic reforms based on international best practices.

 

The High Representative of the Bureau confirmed his readiness to continue constructive interaction.
