WHO uses the term «mpox» for monkeypox

"After a series of consultations with world experts, WHO is beginning to use the new preferred term "mpox" in English as a synonym for monkeypox.
Both names are used simultaneously for one year until 'monkeypox' is phased out," the statement said.
When the monkeypox epidemic broke out earlier this year, it was viewed as racist and condemnatory on the Internet and in some communities, according to the WHO.
"Recommendations include justification, scientific appropriateness, current level of use, pronunciation, ease of use in multiple languages, lack of geographic or Zoological information and ease of obtaining historical scientific information," the organization added on its post.
