World Health Organization approves another vaccine

WHO has added Janssen vaccine (a division of American Johnson & Johnson) to the list of safe and effective COVID-19 emergency treatments. COVID-19 vaccine Ad26.COV2.S developed by Janssen for emergency use in all countries and for the spread of COVAX. The decision was made on the basis of the approval of the European Medicines Agency (EMA), which was announced yesterday.
“Each new, safe and effective tool against COVID-19 is another step towards tackling the pandemic,” said Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, WHO Director-General. “But these tools are useless if they are not available to all people in all countries. I urge governments and companies to fulfill their commitments and use all the solutions at their disposal to scale up production so that these tools become truly global public goods available to all, along with a common solution to the global crisis."
