A resilience index has been established to help in recovery from COVID-19

The Islamic Development Bank (IDB), the AAA-rated Multilateral development Bank of the Muslim world, has launched a new Sustainability Index to help policy makers create mechanisms that support economic sustainability.

"One of the difficult lessons of the COVID-19 pandemic was the importance of economic sustainability. Today, our economic systems are globalized and complex. When a shock occurs in one part of the world economy, it is felt everywhere. We have developed this index to help the politicians of our member countries track their progress in creating more sustainable economies ", – said Dr. Muhammad Sulaiman Al-Jasser, President of the IDB and Chairman of the IDB Group

During the event on the occasion of the launch of the project, Mr. Ilkhom Norkulov, First Deputy Minister of Economic Development and Poverty Reduction of Uzbekistan, noted : "In Uzbekistan, the COVID-19 pandemic has led to significant problems at the community level, including the burden on medical services, the impact on the workforce and the economic shocks associated with strict isolation".

The Sustainability Index will help policy makers from the IDB's 57 member countries track the progress of efforts to improve economic sustainability.
