Energy consumption per unit of GDP will decrease by 30 percent

Presidential Decree "On measures to improve the efficiency of reforms aimed at the transition of the Republic of Uzbekistan to a green economy until 2030" has been adopted

Under the Decree, the following is approved:

   - Reducing specific greenhouse gas emissions per unit of gross domestic product by 35 percent from 2010 levels;

   - Increasing production capacity of renewable energy sources to 15 GW and bringing their share in total electrical energy production to more than 30 percent;

   - Increasing energy efficiency in industry by at least 20 percent;

   - Reducing energy intensity per unit of gross domestic product by 30 percent;

   - Improving the efficiency of water use and introducing water-saving irrigation technologies on an area of up to 1 million hectares

   - Expanding green areas in urban areas by more than 30 percent by planting 200 million seedlings annually and bringing the total number of seedlings to more than 1 billion

   - Increasing the index of the republic's forest reserves to more than 90 million cubic meters;

   - Increasing the level of recycling of solid waste to more than 65 percent.

Also from June 1, 2023 a system of "green certificates" will be introduced based on the requirements to limit the impact on the ecology and the environment in the production of products.
