In Istanbul, 93 schools with low seismic resistance will be closed

Turkish officials said that February 20, that is, from today, students from 93 schools and educational institutions at risk will be transferred to seismically safe schools and will continue their studies there. It is also noted that a decision was made to demolish and reconstruct 76 schools and modernize 17 schools.
Inspection of educational institutions in Istanbul was carried out within the framework of the seismic risk reduction project. A total of 1,418 schools built before 1999, that is, the previous destructive earthquake that occurred in Turkey, were studied, after which the construction standards were changed. The regional authorities say that only 67 of them are earthquake-resistant, 1351 are at risk. 769 buildings of educational institutions were strengthened, about 400 were demolished and built anew.
