We need a law that can reliably protect the rights of women and children - Tanzila Narbaeva

In Uzbekistan, in 2021-2022, law enforcement agencies received more than 72,000 complaints about cases of harassment and violence against women and girls, of which more than 61,000, or almost 85 percent, were committed in the family. Tanzila Narbaeva, Chairman of the Senate, stated this at the thirty-ninth plenary session of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis.

“Unfortunately, so far in Uzbekistan there has not been a separate rule for bringing to justice for domestic violence,” Narbaeva stressed.

According to her, 156 crimes were committed in 2020, and 243 in 2021. In particular:

-Rape and murder of a 12-year-old girl in the Yangikhayat district of Tashkent;

The situation with the orphanage in Khorezm;

in the Sergeli district of the capital, a mother jumped from the top floor along with 3 children.

The President of the Senate said that society needs more stringent and tough laws that can reliably protect the rights of women and children, as well as counteract cases of violence against minors.
